Trina Solar, a global player in smart PV technology and energy storage solutions, has announced the establishment of the 700W+ Photovoltaic Open Innovation Ecological Alliance in collaboration with five prominent manufacturers: Astronergy, Canadian Solar, Risen Energy, TCL Zhonghuan, and Tongwei.

This alliance represents an evolution from Trina Solar’s previous initiative, the 600W+ Photovoltaic Open Innovation Ecological Alliance, initiated in 2020.

The primary objective of this new alliance is to standardize the design and production processes of 700W+ solar PV modules, aiming to streamline supply chain operations, ramp up production, and drive down costs associated with these high-performance modules.

Trina Solar and its partners have embarked on an initiative to establish standardized design parameters for 700W+ modules. These parameters include predefined industry dimensions, such as module size (2384mm x 1303mm) and specific hole distances (ranging from 400mm to 1400mm along the module’s long side). Additionally, a standardized hole distance of 790mm has been proposed to ensure uniformity across the industry. The alliance underscores the importance of continuous technological advancement throughout the PV industry chain.

The rapid advancement in ultra-high-power and ultra-high-efficiency modules, fueled by innovations in n-type high-efficiency cell technology such as TOPCon and HJT, as well as 210mm large-format wafer technology, has paved the way for the transition from the 600W+ era to the 700W+ era in the PV industry.

The formation of the 700W+ Photovoltaic Open Innovation Ecological Alliance signifies a pivotal step in the evolution of PV technology. By establishing standardized guidelines for module development, alliance members aim to expedite the industrialization of these cutting-edge modules, leading to increased production, reduced Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), improved consistency across the industry chain, and enhanced long-term value for solar PV stakeholders.
