RWE and Meta have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 200 MW solar project in Bastrop County, Texas, with Meta purchasing 100 percent of the output.
Construction on the Waterloo Solar project is set to begin in late 2025, supporting Meta’s goal of matching its operations with 100 percent renewable energy.
This agreement marks RWE’s third recent long-term contract with Meta, totaling 574 MW across Texas, Illinois, and Louisiana.
RWE has commissioned 1.6 GW of new wind, solar, and battery storage capacity in the U.S. in 2024 and has over 4 GW of projects under construction.
RWE is investing billions in U.S. energy projects, aiming to meet growing electricity demand and strengthen American energy dominance.
The Waterloo Solar project will create about 300 full-time jobs at peak construction and generate an estimated $26 million in local economic activity.
The project will contribute approximately $2 million annually to the Bastrop County economy and generate $49 million in tax revenue over its 40-year lifespan.
