Navitas Solar and Caelux Corporation have announced a five-year, 5 GW commercialization partnership to manufacture next-generation Hybrid Tandem perovskite-TOPCon solar modules in India, targeting commercial production by 2028. The collaboration aims to strengthen India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem while delivering significantly higher module efficiency for large-scale renewable energy projects.
Under the agreement, Surat-based Navitas Solar will integrate Caelux’s perovskite energy-producing glass with its N-Type TOPCon solar module technology. The companies expect to manufacture Hybrid Tandem modules with efficiencies of up to 28 percent or higher, compared with the current industry benchmark of around 25 percent. The dual-layer design combines perovskite and silicon technologies within a single module, enabling higher electricity generation from the same installation footprint.
The partnership comes as India’s solar sector continues to expand rapidly. The country has surpassed 150 GW of installed solar capacity and is targeting 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030, with solar energy expected to contribute the largest share of new capacity additions.
Caelux said its perovskite technology transforms the top glass of conventional solar modules into a second power-generating layer, increasing energy density by up to 30 percent while reducing the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) by 20 percent or more. The technology is designed to improve power output without significantly increasing module size.
Navitas Solar currently operates a multi-gigawatt manufacturing platform with vertically integrated operations covering solar module production, solar encapsulants, EPC services, and an independent power producer (IPP) portfolio. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Surat, Gujarat, the company manufactures Mono PERC and high-efficiency N-Type TOPCon solar modules with capacities of up to 720W.
The companies said the partnership will establish one of India’s first large-scale manufacturing pathways for high-efficiency Hybrid Tandem solar modules, supporting domestic production, innovation, supply chains, and employment while accelerating the country’s clean energy transition. Commercial manufacturing of the advanced modules is expected to begin in 2028.
