Of the 10,000 MW target for the grid solar power generation systems including large plants, roof top and distribution grid plants under the JNNSM during the 12th Five Year Plan in India, only 1816.51 MW has been achieved so far.
The information was presented in Lok Sabha by Piyush Goyal, Minister of state for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy.
Whereas, off-grid solar applications has attained solar power deployment of 119MW out of a 1000 MW total target made for the 12th Five Year Plan.
On the other hand, solar thermal collectors like SWHs, solar cooking and cooling, Industrial process heat applications had set a target of 6.18 million sq. meters and achieved 2.47 million sq. meters out of it.
The Ministry has announced plans to take corrective measures to achieve the remaining targets.
The actions introduced by Government consist of provision of Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) for solar power in the National Tariff Policy and concessional import and excise duty exemption for new solar power plants with accelerated depreciation and tax holiday.
Other actions initiated by Government include grant of subsidy on off-grid applications and Generation Based Incentive (GBI), facility for bundled power & Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for grid connected solar power projects through various interventions.
The Ministry is also planning to set up ultra-mega solar power projects and solar parks in addition to 1MW solar parks on the banks of canals and solar power driven agricultural pump sets for energizing one lakh pumps.
The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission was launched on 2010, with a target of deploying 20,000 MW of grid connected solar power by 2022.
