China’s TIS steel plant acquires industrial water & recycling plants

Tangshan Iron and Steel (TIS), a subsidiary of China’s Hebei Iron and Steel Group (HBIS), has selected Veolia to build and operate industrial water treatment and recycling facilities for two of its industrial projects, reports Water World.

In duration of two 30-year contracts, total cumulative revenue for Veolia will cost up to 390 million euros ($493.6 million).

Veolia will establish a facility to treat wastewater, recycle and cool water for two new projects including a coking plant and a gas liquefaction plant by TIS in Tangshan.

The facility will enable the reuse of 60 percent of the water and will be shared by the two TIS facilities. Operation of the plants will begin in the second half of 2014.

The two projects are located in strategic regions, linking two different parts of China through an economic corridor.

The coking plant will be operated by TIS and Shanxi Meijin Energy and the liquefied natural gas plant are part of TIS’s comprehensive plan to ensure continuous steel production. The supply of coke is vital for this continuous production to achieve the highest environmental standards.

Veolia share 60 percent of the joint venture with TIS, providing major technical assistance to its steel production site in Chengde, Hebei.

The company has a strong presence in China, providing 40 million people with drinking water, working with various clients in steel, chemical and automotive industry of China.
