Orsted Installs First Suction Bucket Jacket Foundation at Greater Changhua 2b & 4

Orsted has installed the first suction bucket jacket (SBJ) foundation at its 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b & 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan. This marks the first large-scale use of SBJ technology in the Asia-Pacific region. The SBJ design minimizes seabed disturbance, generates almost no noise during installation, and is fully removable, aligning with Orsted’s commitment to environmental protection and ecological coexistence. The project will feature 66 Siemens Gamesa 14-236 DD turbines and is expected to be fully connected to the grid by 2026.

NovaCHARGE and Carter Electric Expand EV Charging Partnership in Florida

NovaCHARGE, a provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, has expanded its partnership with Carter Electric. Carter Electric has installed EV charging stations at various locations, including entertainment venues, hospitals, and resorts across Florida. NovaCHARGE’s CEO, Oscar Rodriguez, emphasized the importance of reliability in their operations and praised Carter Electric for ensuring the consistent performance of their charging infrastructure.

Galp and Powin Commission 5 MW Battery System at Alcoutim Solar Park

Galp, a Portuguese energy company, and U.S.-based Powin have completed a 5-megawatt (MW) / 20 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system at Galp’s solar power plant near Alcoutim, Portugal. This is Galp’s first storage unit and Powin’s first project in Europe. The battery system stores excess solar energy and dispatches it to the grid when needed, enhancing grid stability. The Alcoutim solar plant has a combined capacity of 144 MW, supplying power to approximately 80,000 homes and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 75,000 tons annually. The project utilizes Powin’s Centipede Stack750 and Hitachi Energy’s power conversion system.

EDF Renewables Launches Sutton Bridge Solar Farm and Community Fund

EDF Renewables has start the operations at its first solar farm in the UK, the 49.9MW Sutton Bridge site in Lincolnshire. The solar farm began generating clean electricity in 2023, providing enough low-carbon power for over 9,000 homes annually. A £20,000 yearly community benefit fund has also been launched, administered by the Lincolnshire Community Foundation, with initial grants given to local groups like the Sutton Bridge Foodbank.

Vesper Energy Launches 600 MW Hornet Solar Project in Texas

Vesper Energy has launched the 600 MWac Hornet Solar project in Swisher County, Texas. Covering six square miles and featuring 1.36 million bifacial solar panels, the project will power approximately 160,000 homes annually. It secured $590 million in financing and plans to monetize over $500 million in tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.

RWE Starts Construction of Solar Park at Hambach Mine Site

RWE has begun building a new solar park at the western edge of the Hambach opencast lignite mine in Germany. The project will install around 22,000 solar modules across 12 hectares, with a planned capacity of 8.4 MWac. It is RWE’s fifth solar project at a former opencast mine and continues the company’s plan to convert former mining areas into renewable energy sites. The solar farm will generate enough clean electricity for around 3,500 households per year.
