India’s Wind Energy Sector Targets 6–7 GW Capacity Addition in FY26 Amidst Infrastructure Challenges

India’s wind energy sector is projected to add 6–7 GW of capacity in FY26, surpassing the 4.15 GW added in FY25. However, achieving the national target of 122 GW by 2032 necessitates annual additions of approximately 10 GW. Challenges such as land acquisition delays, inadequate power evacuation infrastructure, and issues with power purchase agreements persist. The Wind Independent Power Producers Association (WIPPA) highlights that around 2.5 GW of wind project tenders were cancelled in the past two years, underscoring the need for policy and infrastructure reforms to meet future goals.

Shanghai Electric has signed strategic agreements with Masdar and Mawarid Holding to jointly develop renewable energy projects across the Middle East, particularly focusing on solar and wind power. The partnerships aim to support the region’s transition to sustainable energy, leveraging Shanghai Electric’s engineering expertise and the regional influence of Masdar and Mawarid. These collaborations are expected to drive large-scale renewable infrastructure development, enhance energy security, and contribute significantly to carbon reduction and green energy goals across the Middle East.
