The cumulative worldwide revenue from smart waste technologies is expected to total more than $42 billion from 2014-2023, according to a report from Navigant Research.

The total volume of waste generated globally is expected to grow by nearly 50 percent over the next 10 years as the adoption of innovative technologies for MSW has evolved as a business opportunity as well as an environmental stuff.

Around 43 percent of the global MSW stream is managed by smart MSW technology market at some point along the whole chain, but the market is still in its primitive stage.

Authorities and waste management companies are accepting latest smart technologies for the collection, processing, and disposal of MSW to enhance the generation of renewable energy and optimize the performance of landfills.

The adaption of these technologies pitch in more integrated waste management solutions other than the normal use of labor, diesel trucks, and open pits.

The smart MSW revolution treats waste as a strategic renewable resource for material and energy recovery, says, Mackinnon Lawrence, research director, Navigant Research.

Smart MSW technologies depends on the four fundamental phases of the traditional MSW management value chain namely, collection, processing, energy recovery, and disposal.
