Mosaic Telecom launches Home Cell Product with Ubiquisys AWS femtocells

By Telecom Lead Team: Mosaic Telecom, a regional US
operator, is providing its customers with femtocells based on the 3GPP Release
9 open standard.

The Mosaic Home Cell is provided by Ubiquisys, the
developer of 3G and LTE small cells, as part of a Nokia Siemens Networks
femtocell solution. Prior to this, the company added that three successive
vendors were unable to provide a solution.

“After a series of false starts with vendors who
promised but could not deliver, we are delighted to be working with Ubiquisys
and Nokia Siemens Networks. Our femtocell solution is ideal for customers in
rural locations, especially when combined with our LTE backhaul solution. By
delivering leading edge technology, we provide the optimum user experience to
our customers,” said Rick Vergin, CEO of Mosaic Telecom.

The carrier said that it is the first operator to deploy
femtocells in AWS spectrum (UMTS Band IV). The solution provided by Ubiquisys
enables operators to choose core network gateway and femtocell access points
independently.

This is helping the femtocell industry to mature by
allowing operators to select a range of femtocell devices from a mix of
vendors, and enable new entrants to penetrate the market.

“With Home Cell, Mosaic is delivering tangible
customer benefits from a pioneering technology. This deployment provides
further evidence of Ubiquisys’ innovative credentials and our track record of
successful deployments, whether they are residential, enterprise or public
space small cells,” said Chris Gilbert, CEO of Ubiquisys.

According to a recent survey by Infonetics’,
61 percent of the surveyed operators offered femtocell and FMC services to
enterprises, 29 percent plan to offer the services in 2012, and 10 percent by
2013. Infonetics interviewed only operators that currently offer femtocell and
FMC services or plan to by 2013.
