GE is setting up an energy storage system, a cogeneration gas engine and LED lighting equipment according to the Future Disaster-Proof Factory Plan for the Sekisui House Tohoku Factory in Japan.

Once the installation is complete, the Factory will have access to an integrated system consisting of an energy storage system, a gas engine, and a solar power generator with 720 kW output.

The installation is part of a pilot project undertaken by the Factory, a regional disaster prevention facility with an aim to reduce peak electricity usage through effective energy storage methods.

It is estimated that, the combination of a gas engine and a storage battery will help in reducing the energy contract by up to ~700 kW at a time.

The high capacity energy storage system includes a 2 MWh, 500 kW output module battery storage solution offering expandability with long battery life cycle.

Besides, the system needs minimum maintenance and works without any external cooling or heating facilities.

The cogeneration gas engine has a VGF H24GSID / 225KW power output providing a total thermal efficiency between 75-80 percent.

It offers environmental quality with NOx concentrations below 40 ppm and performs better under disaster situations through quick booting after blackouts.

In addition, GE has provided 491 LED lighting units inside factory and 130 units inside office.

In addition to the office, cafeteria, and guestrooms, GE also installed solar LED street lights throughout the factory grounds.

GE energy storage system was compatible for this product due to its technological strength and reliability, offering high capacity.

In addition, the compact size of the storage solution requires only half of the installation space when compared to a lead-acid battery with the same capacity.

The concept of a ‘Future Disaster-Proof Factory’ is eco-friendly during normal times and is durable during disasters offering safety to local communities and companies.
