Jordan Opens Tender for 450 MW Al-Mujib Pumped Storage Hydropower Project

Jordan’s Ministry of Investment has launched a request for qualification for the proposed 450 MW Al-Mujib pumped storage hydropower project near the existing Al-Mujib Dam in Madaba Governorate. The facility will provide approximately seven hours of electricity storage at full output, equivalent to around 3,150 MWh. The project will be implemented under a public-private partnership using a build-own-operate-transfer structure. Qualified bidders will be invited to submit detailed technical and financial proposals in a subsequent procurement stage. The deadline for qualification applications is January 18, 2027. The facility will store surplus electricity, particularly daytime solar generation, and release it during peak-demand periods. Project investment value and the construction timetable remain undisclosed.

SSEN Secures Approval for 8 Kilometres of Underground Transmission Cables in Scotland

SSEN Transmission has secured planning permission in principle for infrastructure supporting two new 132 kV underground electricity cables in Perthshire, Scotland. Each cable will extend approximately 4 kilometres between the Kinardochy and Errochty substations near Tummel Bridge. The development forms part of the wider programme to upgrade the Beauly–Denny transmission line from 275 kV to 400 kV. Perth and Kinross Council approved associated infrastructure, including permanent access routes, temporary construction compounds and site entrances. The underground cables themselves can be installed under permitted development rights. United Infrastructure is the principal contractor. Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with completion scheduled for 2031. Investment consideration was not disclosed.

Finland Starts First Renewable E-Methane Exports as P2X Connects 20 MW Hydrogen Plant to Gas Network

Finnish hydrogen producer P2X Solutions has started injecting renewable synthetic methane into Finland’s gas transmission network, marking the country’s first commercial e-methane exports through the Balticconnector system. Transmission operator Gasgrid has issued Finland’s first guarantees of origin for renewable e-methane produced at P2X’s Harjavalta facility. The plant uses a 20 MW electrolyser to produce renewable hydrogen, which is combined with biogenic carbon dioxide in a methanation process. The Harjavalta facility began operating in 2025. The latest milestone enables renewable methane to reach customers beyond Finland while providing certification of its renewable origin. P2X has a longer-term development target of 1 GW of hydrogen production capacity.
