OMV Petrom Awards Contract for 20 MW / 40 MWh Battery at Solar Farm
Romania’s OMV Petrom has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract for a 20 MW / 40 MWh battery energy storage system to be installed alongside its 89 MWp Isalnita solar farm in Dolj County. The two-hour battery will enable the company to store part of the photovoltaic facility’s production and dispatch electricity later when grid conditions or market prices are more favourable. Co-locating storage with solar is becoming increasingly attractive across Europe because batteries can reduce curtailment exposure and improve renewable-project economics. The project also demonstrates OMV Petrom’s diversification into renewable electricity infrastructure beyond its traditional energy operations. Romania is becoming a growing market for battery projects as solar capacity expands and the electricity system requires additional flexibility to integrate intermittent renewable generation.
Vikram Solar Wins 124 MW Module Supply Order in India
Indian photovoltaic manufacturer Vikram Solar has secured a 124 MW solar-module supply order from Capital Energy Private Limited for a project in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The contract adds to Vikram Solar’s domestic order book as Indian developers continue building utility-scale photovoltaic projects at a rapid pace. Andhra Pradesh offers strong solar resources and has emerged as an important renewable-energy market. The 124 MW order also highlights increasing demand for domestically manufactured modules as India expands local solar manufacturing capacity and strengthens supply-chain requirements. India installed around 26 GW of solar capacity in the first half of 2026, providing a sizeable market for module manufacturers. Strong domestic demand, combined with manufacturing expansion, is positioning Indian suppliers to compete for both local projects and international module orders.
India Proposes Mandatory Battery Storage for New Solar and Wind Projects
India’s Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has proposed making grid-forming inverters and energy storage mandatory for new ground-mounted solar and onshore wind projects scheduled to become operational after July 2027. The draft proposal reflects growing concern about maintaining grid stability as India adds increasingly large volumes of intermittent renewable generation. Batteries can provide frequency support, voltage management and electricity during periods when solar or wind production declines. Requiring storage alongside future renewable projects could create a substantial new market for battery manufacturers, system integrators and power-electronics suppliers. The proposal is particularly significant because India is already rapidly expanding domestic BESS manufacturing. If implemented, mandatory storage requirements could reshape project economics while accelerating deployment of batteries across the country’s utility-scale renewable-energy sector.
