Envision Launches 16.7 MW EN252 Offshore Wind Turbine for European Market
Envision Energy has launched the EN252 offshore wind turbine rated at 16.7 MW, specifically targeting European offshore projects. The turbine features a 252-metre rotor diameter, placing it firmly in the latest generation of very-large offshore machines designed to increase output per turbine and reduce the number of foundations, array cables and installation operations required for a given wind-farm capacity. Envision unveiled the machine during WindEnergy Hamburg as it seeks a larger role in Europe’s offshore-wind supply chain. The European configuration is important because turbines must meet regional certification, grid, environmental and operational requirements. The EN252 gives developers another potential supplier as offshore projects move toward turbines in the 15 MW-plus category.
DeepOcean and TFKable Form Offshore Wind Cable EPCI Joint Venture
DeepOcean and the controlling entity of TFKable Group have agreed to establish a joint venture offering integrated engineering, procurement, construction and installation — EPCI — services for subsea power cables. The alliance combines TFKable’s cable-manufacturing capabilities with DeepOcean’s offshore installation, trenching, survey and subsea engineering expertise. The partners are targeting offshore wind farms and other power-transmission developments where developers increasingly prefer integrated cable packages rather than managing manufacturing and offshore installation through separate contracts. Subsea cables are among the most critical components of offshore-wind infrastructure, connecting turbines internally and carrying electricity to shore. The new venture is intended to provide customers with a single contracting interface covering the cable project from engineering and supply through offshore installation.
Purus Wins Long-Term Siemens Gamesa Charter for Offshore Wind Service Vessel
Purus has secured a long-term charter agreement with Siemens Gamesa covering the service operation vessel Purus Horizon, adding dedicated marine capacity for offshore-wind turbine maintenance. Service operation vessels provide accommodation, workshops, spare-parts storage and safe personnel transfer for technicians working at offshore wind farms over extended periods. Long-term vessel availability is becoming increasingly important as Europe’s installed offshore-wind fleet expands and turbine sizes increase. Siemens Gamesa is one of the world’s largest offshore turbine suppliers and requires specialised vessels to support turbines throughout their operating lives. The charter gives Purus contracted utilisation for the vessel while providing Siemens Gamesa with dedicated maintenance infrastructure.
