Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on Trina Storage, ContourGlobal, NTPC–MAHAGENCO Consortium, among others.
Trina Storage Secures 1.2 GWh of BESS Orders in Chile and Argentina
Trina Storage has secured around 1.2 GWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) orders across Chile and Argentina, strengthening its presence in Latin America’s fast-growing storage market. The projects will deploy Trina’s lithium-ion battery solutions, designed to support grid stability, renewable energy integration, and peak power management in regions with rising solar and wind penetration. The contracts reflect increasing investment momentum in large-scale energy storage as utilities and developers seek flexible capacity to balance intermittent renewables and enhance system reliability. For consumers, the projects are expected to improve power quality and reduce curtailment risks. Strategically, the wins align with Trina Storage’s growth plans to expand globally and position itself as a key technology provider in emerging storage markets across the Americas.
ContourGlobal Commissions 202-MW Battery at Bulgarian Thermal Power Site
ContourGlobal has inaugurated a 202-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Maritsa East 2 thermal power plant site in Bulgaria, marking one of the country’s largest operational battery projects. The grid-scale facility is designed to enhance system flexibility, provide fast-response balancing services, and support the integration of renewable energy as coal-fired generation is phased down. Installed at an existing power generation location, the battery leverages grid infrastructure already in place, helping reduce development timelines and costs. The project plays a strategic role in strengthening Bulgaria’s power system stability, improving frequency regulation, and enabling a smoother transition toward a cleaner and more resilient energy mix in Southeast Europe.
NTPC–MAHAGENCO Consortium Acquires 1,350 MW Sinnar Thermal Power Plant
A consortium of NTPC and Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO) has acquired a 100 percent stake in Sinnar Thermal Power (STPL), which operates a 1,350 MW coal-based power plant in Maharashtra. The acquisition strengthens NTPC’s footprint in western India and supports MAHAGENCO’s efforts to secure stable baseload capacity to meet rising electricity demand in the state. The deal reflects the continued importance of large thermal assets in ensuring grid reliability alongside the expansion of renewable energy in India.
