Solaria Secures EUR 41 Million for Agri-PV and Battery Storage Projects in Spain
Spanish renewable energy developer Solaria has secured EUR 41 million (USD 47.4 million) in grants from the Spanish government to develop four agrivoltaic (agri-PV) projects integrated with battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the regions of Castile and Leon and Catalonia. The funding was awarded through the second round of Spain’s innovative renewable energy and storage programme managed by the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), with financing sourced from the EU’s Next Generation recovery funds. The projects will combine solar power generation with agricultural activities, enabling more efficient land use while enhancing renewable energy production. Although Solaria has not disclosed specific project details, the company emphasized the strategic importance of battery storage as it continues to expand beyond traditional solar development. The investment aligns with Spain’s broader efforts to accelerate renewable energy deployment, strengthen grid flexibility, and support the integration of clean energy through advanced storage technologies. The grant award further reinforces Solaria’s growing focus on solar-plus-storage solutions as a key pillar of its long-term growth strategy.
Fortis Energy to Begin Construction of 75-MWp Solar-Plus-Storage Project in Albania
Fortis Energy is set to commence construction of the Ersekë Solar Power Plant in southeastern Albania, a 75-MWp photovoltaic project integrated with a 25-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Located in the village of Taç-Lartë in the Kolonjë region, the project has entered the execution phase following the receipt of all necessary approvals from Albanian authorities. The hybrid renewable energy facility is expected to generate approximately 135 GWh of clean electricity annually, supporting Albania’s efforts to expand renewable energy capacity and strengthen energy security. The combination of solar generation and battery storage will enable more efficient utilization of renewable energy by storing excess electricity and supplying it when needed, improving grid stability and flexibility. Fortis Energy has secured a long-term operating permit for the project, underscoring its commitment to investing in the Balkan renewable energy market. Once operational, the solar-plus-storage facility will contribute to reducing carbon emissions, supporting Albania’s energy transition, and advancing the country’s long-term sustainability objectives.
EDF Unit Commissions 20-MW Battery at French Virtual Power Plant
EDF subsidiary Agregio Solutions has commissioned a 20-MW battery energy storage system as part of its virtual power plant (VPP) platform in France, strengthening the country’s growing flexibility and energy storage capabilities. The battery will be integrated into Agregio’s digital aggregation platform, which combines distributed energy resources, renewable generation, storage assets, and flexible demand to provide balancing services to the electricity grid. The project is designed to support grid stability by storing electricity during periods of surplus generation and discharging it when demand rises, helping to optimize renewable energy integration and improve system reliability. Virtual power plants play an increasingly important role in modern electricity markets by coordinating decentralized energy resources and enabling them to operate as a single flexible asset. The commissioning aligns with EDF Group’s broader strategy to expand energy storage deployment and accelerate the integration of renewable energy across its operations. The new battery asset will enhance Agregio Solutions’ ability to deliver flexibility services to the French power system while supporting France’s decarbonization and energy transition objectives.
