Habitat Energy to Optimise 157 MW of AGR’s UK Battery Storage Portfolio

AGR Renewables has selected Habitat Energy to optimize 157 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the UK, strengthening the performance and commercial value of its growing energy storage portfolio. The agreement highlights the increasing importance of advanced battery optimization software in maximizing revenue, enhancing grid services, and supporting the transition to a more flexible electricity system. A key innovation of the partnership is Habitat Energy’s use of sophisticated forecasting, trading, and optimization technology to manage battery operations in real time. This enables the storage assets to participate efficiently in energy markets and grid-balancing services, improving asset performance and profitability. The portfolio will help store excess renewable electricity and release it when demand is highest, supporting grid stability, energy security, and renewable energy integration. Key benefits include improved utilization of battery assets, enhanced grid flexibility, and increased support for the UK’s decarbonization goals. The partnership demonstrates how intelligent energy management solutions are becoming essential for unlocking the full value of battery storage as renewable energy deployment accelerates across the UK.

ContourGlobal Acquires 500-MW/2-GWh Battery Storage Project in UK Market Debut

ContourGlobal has entered the UK energy storage market through the acquisition of a 500-MW/2-GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Scotland. The large-scale project represents a significant expansion of the company’s renewable energy and flexible power portfolio and is expected to play a key role in supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon electricity system. The project’s 2-GWh storage capacity will   large volumes of renewable electricity to be stored and dispatched when demand is highest, improving grid stability, flexibility, and energy security. As one of the largest planned battery storage developments in the UK, it will help address the intermittency of wind and solar power while supporting the integration of increasing renewable generation into the national grid.A key benefit of the project is its ability to enhance grid resilience and reduce reliance on fossil fuel-based balancing services. The acquisition aligns with growing  investment in long-duration energy storage infrastructure, which is becoming critical for achieving the UK’s net-zero ambitions. The project underscores the increasing importance of utility-scale battery storage in enabling renewable energy growth, modernizing electricity networks, and delivering reliable, sustainable power to consumers.

NLC India and Indian Oil Form Renewable Energy Joint Venture in Tamil Nadu

State-owned NLC India (NLCIL) and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture for developing large-scale renewable energy projects in Tamil Nadu, reinforcing India’s clean energy transition. The partnership will focus on solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy projects, with the option to integrate battery energy storage systems (BESS) and pumped hydro storage to enhance grid reliability and renewable energy utilization.  A key innovation of the venture is its multi-technology approach, combining renewable generation with energy storage to provide flexible and reliable clean power. The projects are expected to supply electricity to commercial and industrial consumers, distribution companies, power exchanges, e-mobility applications, and green fuel production initiatives. The collaboration supports India’s decarbonization and energy security goals while leveraging Tamil Nadu’s strong renewable energy potential. It also aligns with NLC India’s broader strategy of expanding renewable energy, storage, and green hydrogen initiatives, while enabling Indian Oil to accelerate its diversification into sustainable energy solutions.
