Two Offshore Substations Depart Netherlands for 927 MW Gennaker Wind Grid Connection
The HSI Joint Venture, comprising Smulders HSM and Iv, has completed the load-out and departure of two offshore substations for Germany’s OST-6-1 offshore grid connection. The structures, OSS Zingst and OSS Darß, departed from Schiedam and Vlissingen in the Netherlands for installation in the Baltic Sea. Each substation has approximately 450 MW of transmission capacity and will support the connection of the 927 MW Gennaker offshore wind project to the German electricity network. The Zingst topside weighs approximately 4,700 tonnes. German transmission operator 50Hertz is developing the grid connection. The next construction stage involves offshore installation, electrical integration and commissioning ahead of Gennaker’s planned 2028 completion.
AXIAN Signs PPA for 200 MW Solar Project in Zambia with Africa GreenCo
Pan-African renewable-energy developer AXIAN has signed a power purchase agreement with Africa GreenCo for the 200 MWac/240 MWdc Kudu Solar project in Zambia. The agreement was signed during the Energy Forum for Africa in Lusaka. Located in Kafue District, the project is expected to generate approximately 530 GWh of electricity annually. Africa GreenCo will purchase the output and market it through the Southern African Power Pool to utilities, mining companies and commercial customers. Standard Bank Group and Stanbic Bank Zambia are supporting the project’s financing and advisory arrangements. AXIAN entered Zambia’s electricity market in 2025 through the acquisition of an 85.6 percent stake in the 54.3 MWp Bangweulu solar plant.
Yellow Door Energy Starts Construction of 49 MW Solar Park in South Africa
Yellow Door Energy has started construction of the 49 MWp Lion Thorn Solar Park near Leeudoringstad in South Africa’s North West province. The project recently reached financial close with debt financing from Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking. PowerChina is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction. Lion Thorn is expected to generate approximately 115 GWh of electricity during its first operating year, avoiding an estimated 104,200 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Electricity will be sold under long-term power purchase agreements with cement and construction materials company PPC and licensed electricity trader POWERX. The project will use South Africa’s electricity wheeling arrangements to serve commercial customers. Commercial operation is scheduled for 2028.
Airengy and Yehuda Levi Form Joint Venture for 39 Solar and Battery Projects in Israel
Israeli energy-storage developer Airengy has signed an agreement with Yehuda Levi Group to establish an equally owned joint venture developing up to 39 municipal solar-plus-storage projects across three local authorities in Israel. The proposed portfolio will include approximately 6.5 MW of photovoltaic capacity and 30 MWh of battery storage. Total investment is estimated at NIS 49 million ($16 million). Airengy will receive 50 percent of development and economic rights without a separate payment for those rights. Its subsidiary Green-Go is expected to handle engineering, procurement and construction. Airengy estimates cumulative net cash flow of approximately NIS 100 million over the projects’ operating lives. Construction schedules were not disclosed.
