RWE Completes Sale of 33.33% Stake in Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm to EDF

German energy company RWE has completed the sale of its 33.33 percent ownership stake in the Five Estuaries offshore wind project in the United Kingdom to EDF. EDF power solutions UK and Ireland will assume responsibility for leading development on behalf of the remaining shareholders. The project received development consent in December 2025 and is planned for the southern North Sea across approximately 128 square kilometres. Its approved design permits up to 79 offshore wind turbines, with maximum tip heights of 370 metres. The completed facility could generate electricity equivalent to the requirements of approximately one million UK households. RWE intends to reinvest the proceeds in other consented offshore wind projects. Financial consideration was not disclosed.

ENGIE Commissions $174 Million, 142 MW/802 MWh Battery Storage Project in Chile

ENGIE has started commercial operations at its 142 MW/802 MWh BESS Lile battery storage project at the Mejillones Energy Complex in Chile’s Antofagasta region. The installation represents an investment of approximately $174 million and forms the first stage of converting the existing thermal generation complex away from coal. BESS Lile comprises 160 battery containers and 40 supporting electrical units. The standalone facility can discharge electricity for approximately five hours and supply the equivalent of more than 84,000 households during that period. ENGIE reused infrastructure originally intended for another coal-fired generating unit, including its electrical substation, internal land and access roads. Commercial operation was authorised in September 2026.

HELLENiQ ENERGY Completes €50 Million Battery Storage Project in Greece

Greek energy company HELLENiQ ENERGY has completed its first major battery storage installation, a 100 MW/200 MWh facility at its Thessaloniki industrial complex. The project represents an investment of approximately €50 million and comprises three battery stations using lithium iron phosphate technology with liquid cooling. The installation occupies approximately 100,000 square metres and connects to the electricity network through a five-kilometre underground high-voltage line and a new 33/150 kV substation. The project secured support through Greece’s first competitive battery storage tender. HELLENiQ is also developing a 50 MW/200 MWh battery project in Florina. Its renewable-energy and storage development portfolio exceeds 6 GW, including more than 700 MW already operational.

ENGIE Advances 1,660 MW of Battery Storage Projects Through PJM Interconnection Process

US electricity grid operator PJM Interconnection has accepted two battery storage projects from ENGIE IR Holdings into its Expedited Interconnection Track, covering 1,660 MW of combined capacity. The projects comprise the 860 MW Wayne battery in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, and the 800 MW Galion battery in Morrow County, Ohio. Both are targeting commercial operation around mid-2029. PJM accepted three projects in its first expedited selection, representing more than 2,100 MW of total nameplate capacity, including a separate gas-generation upgrade. The accelerated process is intended for large projects capable of entering service within three years. Acceptance into the programme is an interconnection milestone, not confirmation that construction or financing has been completed.
