NOROO Holdings Leads Korean Initiative to Commercialize Bio-Based 3-HP Technology
NOROO Holdings has been selected as the lead organization for a major South Korean government-backed initiative aimed at accelerating the commercialization of bio-based 3-hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP), a key platform chemical used in sustainable plastics, coatings, and other industrial applications. Supported by the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the project focuses on pilot-scale investments and the creation of an integrated R&D value chain spanning feedstock production, manufacturing, and downstream applications. NOROO Paint, a key affiliate, will validate bio-acrylic acid production based on 3-HP catalytic reactions, supporting efforts to replace petrochemical-derived acrylic acid with bio-based alternatives. The initiative is expected to accelerate South Korea’s industrial biotechnology and sustainable materials sector.
