AES Finalises 1st Phase of Solar-Storage Plant in California

AES Corporation has completed the first phase of its large-scale solar-plus-storage project in California’s Imperial Valley. The initial phase includes 248MW of solar capacity and 97MW/388MWh of battery storage. Once fully operational, the project will reach 2GW of solar and 1GW of storage capacity, making it one of the largest of its kind in the U.S. The development supports California’s clean energy goals and grid reliability. AES plans to roll out additional phases in the coming years, reinforcing its commitment to accelerating the energy transition.

China’s Kashgar Region Completes 10GW Solar PV Base

China has completed a 10GW solar PV base in the Kashgar region of Xinjiang, marking a major milestone in its renewable energy expansion. Part of China’s desert-based clean energy initiative, the project is designed to harness the region’s solar resources and boost clean electricity supply to the national grid. It supports China’s dual goals of energy security and carbon neutrality, while also promoting economic growth in remote western areas. The Kashgar base is among the largest of its kind and will play a crucial role in meeting China’s ambitious renewable energy and climate targets.

Hydro-Quebec Signs New PPA with 22-MW Biomass Plant

Hydro-Quebec has signed a new 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the 22MW Saint-Félicien biomass power plant in Quebec, operated by Bioenergie AE Cote-Nord Canada. The plant uses residual forest biomass to generate electricity and supports the province’s renewable energy mix. The agreement ensures long-term operation of the facility, contributing to regional economic stability and sustainable forest management. This move aligns with Hydro-Quebec’s strategy to diversify clean energy sources and promote local, low-carbon generation. The new PPA will take effect after the current contract expires on December 31, 2025.

BLC Energy Submits 100MW Solar and Storage Plans in Scotland

BLC Energy has submitted plans for a 100MW solar and battery energy storage project in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The proposed development, named Bruntland Solar, will include a significant co-located battery system to enhance grid stability and energy resilience. If approved, it will become one of the largest solar and storage projects in the region, supporting Scotland’s net-zero ambitions. The project is currently undergoing planning review, with BLC emphasizing its commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship throughout the development process.
