Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on Acciona Energia, DP Energy, Vestas receiving wind turbine order from Tenaris in Argentina, among others.
Acciona Energia Commissions 280 MW Forty Mile Wind Farm in Alberta
Acciona Energia has commenced operations at the 280 MW Forty Mile Wind Farm in Alberta, Canada—its largest North American project to date. The facility features 49 Nordex turbines, each with a 5.7 MW capacity and 108-meter tower height. It is expected to offset 600,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to planting 25 million trees. The project generated over 200 construction jobs and will maintain 25 full-time positions. Over its lifespan, it will contribute more than CAD 133 million in property tax revenues to local communities.
DP Energy and ESB to Develop 100 MW Wind Farm in County Mayo
DP Energy and ESB are collaborating on the development of a 100 MW onshore wind farm in County Mayo, Ireland. This project is part of DP Energy’s broader renewable energy pipeline, which includes the Lyra Wind Farm in County Mayo with a potential capacity of up to 100 MW and the Aries Wind Farm, also in County Mayo, with a potential capacity of up to 50 MW. The partnership aims to support Ireland’s Climate Action Plan, targeting 80 percent renewable electricity by 2030, and contributes to the country’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Vestas Secures 103 MW Wind Turbine Order from Tenaris in Argentina
Vestas has secured a 103 MW order from steel manufacturer Tenaris for the Buena Ventura wind project in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. The project will feature 24 V150-4.2 MW turbines operating at 4.3 MW, with delivery slated for Q3 2022 and commissioning expected in Q3 2023. Vestas will also provide a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement to ensure optimal performance. This marks Vestas’ first collaboration with Tenaris, supporting the company’s efforts to decarbonize its operations and reduce emissions at its Siderca mill.
Arena Renewables Sells 40 MW Illinois Solar Portfolio to Summit Ridge Energy
Arena Renewables has completed the sale of a 40 MW community solar portfolio in Illinois to Summit Ridge Energy (SRE), a top U.S. community solar developer. This marks Arena’s first portfolio sale since launching in July 2023. The projects will support local energy access and grid resilience while contributing to Illinois’ clean energy goals. The acquisition expands SRE’s growing portfolio and reinforces its leadership in the U.S. community solar sector. The transaction reflects strong investor demand for scalable, income-generating renewable energy assets across North America.
