General Motors adjusts EV production goals amid market uncertainty

General Motors (GM) has retracted its previous forecast of achieving 1 million units of electric vehicle (EV) production capacity in North America by the end of 2025.

A GM spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting EV demand but refrained from reaffirming the earlier production target. “We’re being flexible. We haven’t announced a new capacity target and we will build to demand,” the spokesperson told Reuters.

GM CEO Mary Barra, speaking at an event, highlighted the company’s adaptive strategy, noting that GM would not manufacture 1 million EVs next year due to slower market development. “Just because the market’s not developing, but it will get there. And so we’re going to be guided by the customer,” Mary Barra explained.
