ESB Takes FID on 96 MW Chleansaid Wind Farm in Scotland

ESB has reached final investment decision on the 96 MW Chleansaid onshore wind farm in the Scottish Highlands, moving its first wholly developed Scottish wind project into delivery. The project near Lairg will use 16 wind turbines and secured planning consent in 2023 together with a 15-year Contract for Difference. Construction is due to start later in 2026, with commercial operation targeted for 2028. ESB has appointed GE Vernova to supply turbines and long-term servicing, Kirby Group for electrical balance-of-plant work and Farrans Construction for civil works. Chleansaid is the first project advancing into construction from ESB’s approximately 2 GW pipeline of onshore wind opportunities across Scotland and Wales.

MN8, Google and Eos Plan 86 MW Solar Plus 380 MWh Storage Project for PJM

MN8 Energy, Google and Eos Energy Enterprises have unveiled an 86 MW solar-plus-storage project designed to deliver round-the-clock clean power into the PJM grid. MN8 will own and operate the project, combining 86 MW of solar, 70 MW/280 MWh of lithium-ion storage and 10 MW/100 MWh of Eos zinc-based long-duration storage. The Eos Z3 system can provide extended-duration energy shifting that complements conventional lithium-ion batteries. The development is expected to support Google’s growing power requirements in West Virginia while strengthening PJM grid flexibility. MN8 plans roughly $350 million of investment, with operation expected during the 2028-2030 period. The project marks Google’s first deployment of Eos technology at this scale.

Google Contracts 396 MW From Fervo’s $2 Billion Utah Geothermal Project Google has agreed to purchase 396 MW of geothermal electricity from Fervo Energy’s Cape Station GeoCluster in Utah, with an option that could expand the supply by another 600 MW to almost 1 GW by 2030. Initial deliveries are expected from 2028. Cape Station is being developed as one of the world’s largest enhanced-geothermal projects, with Fervo investing more than $2 billion. The company uses horizontal drilling and hydraulic-fracturing techniques adapted from oil and gas development to access geothermal resources. Google previously worked with Fervo on a 3 MW Nevada pilot and a subsequent 115 MW arrangement. The latest PPA represents a major commercial validation for firm, 24/7 geothermal power serving AI and data-centre electricity demand.
