Today’s renewable energy news includes updates from Dogger Bank South offshore wind project, RWE, Masdar, Galetech, Ionica, PowerCell, among others.

UK Approves 4GW of Major Offshore Wind Projects

The UK government has approved development consent orders for the 3GW Dogger Bank South offshore wind project and the 1GW North Falls wind farm off the east coast of England. RWE and Masdar are jointly developing Dogger Bank South, while SSE and RWE are behind the North Falls project. Together, the projects could deliver around 4GW of offshore wind capacity to the UK electricity system. Dogger Bank South will feature around 200 turbines and connect to the grid via the proposed Creyke Beck substation near Cottingham, with full commissioning targeted by 2032. The project secured a £91.20/MWh Contract for Difference in Allocation Round 7. North Falls, planned around 40km offshore from East Anglia, will comprise 57 turbines and connect through the proposed East Anglia Connection Node substation by 2030. The approvals strengthen the UK’s offshore wind pipeline and long-term clean energy targets.

Galetech and Ionica Form Long-Term Scotland Renewables Partnership

Galetech Group has entered a long-term development partnership with Scottish renewable energy developer Ionica Energy to advance utility-scale renewable energy projects across Scotland. The partnership will combine Galetech’s expertise in renewable energy development, infrastructure investment and project delivery with Ionica Energy’s local market and development experience. Over the next 10 years, the companies aim to develop strategic renewable energy projects in Scotland with a minimum generation capacity of 50MW each. The collaboration will focus on technologies including onshore wind, ground-mounted solar and battery energy storage systems. The initiative highlights growing international investment and long-term commitment to Scotland’s renewable energy sector as developers expand clean power infrastructure, grid flexibility and energy transition projects across the UK.

PowerCell Clarifies Scope of Research and Innovation Projects

PowerCell Group has clarified the scale and financing of its ongoing research projects and industrial innovation initiatives following questions regarding the company’s activities. PowerCell said its research collaborations with Vinnova and the Swedish Energy Agency represent only around 1 percent of the company’s total operations in 2025. The company added that it provides the majority of funding for these projects itself. The company stated that it remains focused on commercialisation and industrialisation in partnership with established industrial partners. PowerCell said it continues to have confidence in the fuel cell technologies and energy solutions under development and their long-term market potential. The clarification highlights the company’s emphasis on scaling commercial operations while continuing targeted innovation and research activities within the hydrogen and clean energy sector.
