Vestas has announced a 217 MW order from SSE Generation for the Strathy South wind energy project in Scotland, marking a significant milestone in the UK renewable energy sector. The project will feature 35 V162-6.2 MW wind turbines, the first deployment of this turbine model in the UK.

Vestas said the scope of the agreement includes the supply, delivery, installation, and commissioning of the turbines. Additionally, Vestas will provide long-term support through a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement, aimed at optimizing turbine performance over their operational lifetime.

Last year, Vestas secured its first EnVentus order in the UK.

“We’re partnering with SSE on the first deployment in the UK of the larger V162-6.2 MW turbines. Vestas’ range of onshore wind solutions continues to deliver a robust solution for the UK electricity market,” James Robinson, Country Manager and Director Sales UK for Vestas Northern and Central Europe, said.

Vestas said wind turbine delivery is scheduled to begin in Q4 2026, with the wind farm expected to become operational by Q3 2027. The Strathy South project is set to contribute significantly to Scotland’s renewable energy capacity, supporting the UK’s net-zero ambitions.
