Greentech Lead America: BYD, a Chinese automotive and
green energy technology enterprise, has signed a contract with CTS and
Buquebus, a tourism transportation company in Uruguay, to bring electric buses
into Uruguay.
Through this contract, CTS and Buquebus will purchase
GreenCity buses from BYD. The BYD GreenCity buses run 250 km (155 miles) on a
single charge in urban conditions. It consumes less than 130 kWh per 100 km.
Buquebus said it will replace all of its tourism bus
fleet with new energy buses. BYD will
deliver its first electric bus before end of 2012, and targets to deliver 500
buses by 2015.
The core technology of the BYDÂ electric
buses is BYD’s self-developed Iron-Phosphate battery technology
boasting the highest safety, longest service life and most
environmentally-friendly rechargeable chemistry. The BYD buses have been in
service in four cities in China including Shenzhen, Changsha, Shaoguan and Xi’.
“Uruguay is an important tourism market yet it imports
all of its petroleum. Promoting electric vehicles not only contributes to
environmental protection and economic recovery, but it also improves Uruguay’s
energy security,” said Stanley Lin Tang, senior business director, BYD.
