China-based Xi’an LONGi Silicon Materials (LONGi) is to invest in building a 2-GW monocrystalline silicon module production plant in Jiangsu province.

The plant will also include a solar research and development centre.

Zhejiang Leye Photovoltaic Science and Technology company, a unit of LONGi , has signed an investment contract with the local government of Taizhou city district of Hailing on September 16.

The proposed investment is CNY1.5 billion ($236 million) in the two projects. These will be built close to a 2-GW solar cell factory of LONGi.

Zhejiang Leye will set up a unit in Taizhou, which will be in charge of the investment, construction and operation of the new facilities. The partners expect to have them up and running within two years.

LONGi chiefly makes monocrystalline ingots and wafers for the solar industry. Recently, the firm announced that it will establish a 3.5-GW production plant for ingots, wafers and modules in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
