Sempra Infrastructure has placed a significant order for the Cimarron wind farm located in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, to Vestas. This expansion marks the third phase of the Energia Sierra Juarez Wind Complex, with a targeted total installed capacity of 582 MW.
Vestas said the order entails the procurement and installation of 46 V163-4.5 MW turbines and 18 V162-6.2 MW turbines.
Additionally, upon completion, Vestas, a prominent player in the wind energy sector, will provide a 10-year service agreement (AOM 5000). This agreement aims to optimize energy production and ensure long-term operational reliability for the wind farm.
Mario Barreiro Castellanos, Country Head for Vestas in Mexico, highlighted the dedication of the team despite market challenges. “Our team has always worked dedicatedly, intensively and tirelessly, always investing in the country despite any market challenges, due to the broad potential we identify in Mexico to take on a leading role in the energy transition journey.”
Vestas said the delivery of turbines is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024, with commissioning expected by the fourth quarter of 2025.
