Vestas has been awarded a firm and unconditional order for the 1.1 GW Inch Cape Offshore Wind project, located in Scotland.

The wind power project is being developed by Inch Cape Offshore, a 50:50 joint venture between ESB and Red Rock Renewables.

The agreement includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of 72 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

Vestas will also provide a 10-year service agreement followed by operational support.

The wind power project will produce over 5TWh of renewable electricity annually, contributing significantly to the UK’s energy security and carbon reduction goals.

“Inch Cape will play a vital role in the UK’s sustainable energy future, aligning with the government’s target to quadruple offshore wind capacity by 2030 and fully decarbonize electricity generation,” Nils de Baar, President of Vestas Northern & Central Europe, said.

“These turbines from Vestas will make a meaningful contribution to the UK’s energy mix and carbon reduction targets,” John Hill, Inch Cape Project Director, said.

Situated in the Scottish North Sea, 15 kilometers off the Angus coast, the turbine installation will use the Port of Dundee as its base. Installation is set to commence in 2026, with the wind farm expected to become fully operational by 2027.
