RWE announced that the UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, has granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Rampion 2 Offshore Wind Farm off the Sussex coast.

The project, an extension of the existing Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, is led by RWE on behalf of a Macquarie-led consortium and Enbridge Inc. It could power over one million UK homes. Rampion 2 will consist of up to 90 wind turbines, with subsea and underground cables connecting to the transmission network at Bolney, Mid Sussex.

RWE Director Danielle Lane called the approval a key milestone, emphasizing its role in securing the UK’s energy supply and supporting clean power goals. Project Lead Umair Patel highlighted the project’s potential to meet around three-quarters of Sussex’s electricity needs and create jobs.

Rampion 2 is eligible for a future Contract for Difference (CfD) auction, with construction set to begin after a Financial Investment Decision (FID). Rampion 2 is expected to be operational by the end of the decade. RWE’s UK offshore wind portfolio includes nine projects with a combined potential capacity of 10.5 GW.
