Suzlon Energy has announced its plans to develop large-scale wind energy capacity in state of Madhya Pradesh in India, reports Clean Technica.
The plan was announced at the Global Investors Summit organized by the state government.
Suzlon Energy will set up a manufacturing unit investing Rs 15,000 crore ($2.5 billion) to develop 2,000 MW of wind energy capacity in the state. Madhya Pradesh is home to about half of the company’s total installed capacity.
The company has a portfolio of 8,500 MW of the total 21,700 MW wind energy capacity installed in the country.
Company has done acquisitions in Europe due to which it has access to world-class turbine technology. Right now, it is in a position for the next phase of expansion in Indian wind energy sector.
National Wind Energy Mission of India government has kept a target of 10,000 MW capacity to be added every year, more than about 2,500-3,000 MW capacity addition per year over the last few years.
In another initiative, the company is planning to set up a 300 MW offshore wind energy project off the coast of Gujarat. Currently it is studying the feasibility of such projects after ministry has decided to build an offshore plant in India.
