Siemens to showcase latest offshore wind innovations at EWEA Offshore 2015

Siemens will showcase its new products that help to reduce the costs of offshore wind power at the EWEA Offshore 2015 in Copenhagen in 10 to 12, March.

Siemens will introduce new service practices that make wind turbine operation on the high seas more economical.

From 2020 onward Siemens will start offering technologies that will allow offshore wind power to be produced on a LCOE level (levelized cost of energy) below 10 euro cents per KWh, in addition to optimized foundations.

To achieve this target, Siemens is focusing on multiple aspects including the development of a new offshore wind turbine which provides greater customer value while reducing offshore project risks.

At present, the high-voltage alternating-current (HVAC) offshore substations can be substituted by the new Siemens Grid Access Solution in AC technology which acts as a distributed transmission asset.

By focusing on the core electrical equipment and removing certain ancillary systems, the module will become lighter enough and can be easily mounted together with a turbine.

This environmentally-friendly lighter solution offers substantially reduced costs while improving the customer’s flexibility.

During the expo, Siemens will also present cost-reducing concepts for operating offshore wind power facilities.

As part of a new logistics concept, Service Operation Vessels (SOV) will ensure availability of maintenance technicians on site for weeks as well as safely access turbines in rough seas.

If less time is spent on traveling to and from shore, the maintenance operations will become more efficient, increasing the availability of offshore wind turbines.

The company is also designing efficient turbine-to-grid connections, creating new offshore logistics concepts for turbine maintenance.

All the four Siemens Divisions including Siemens Wind Power and Renewables, Siemens Power Generation Services, Siemens Energy Management and Siemens Digital Factory will present their innovations at the event.
