Siemens Gamesa has won several maintenance contracts from Iberdrola totaling 1,928 MW at 69 of the energy group’s wind farms in Spain and Portugal.

The agreements — for a period of between three and five years — cover a total of 1,963 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines of the G4X (660 kW unit power), G5X (850 kW), G8/9X (2.0 MW), Siemens Gamesa 2.X (SG 2.1-114 y SG 2.6-114) and Siemens Gamesa 3.X (SG 3.4-132) platforms.

The service agreements include new and renewed contracts. The wind turbine leader said around 160 employees, primarily based in the rural areas where the wind farm is located, will be involved in managing the services.

Siemens Gamesa, in addition to offering operation and maintenance services, provides programs to maximize energy production, improve availability and optimize operation and maintenance (O&M) costs over the turbine lifetime

The agreement between Siemens Gamesa and Iberdrola includes design modifications and improvements to the installed fleet.

“We will go beyond the usual maintenance tasks and offer solutions that the market is increasingly demanding, such as upgrading existing turbines to increase energy production while optimizing the cost of operations and maintenance,” said John Paul Larraneta, CEO of Siemens Gamesa Service for Southern Europe and Africa.

Siemens Gamesa will have 14GW under maintenance for more than 340 customers in 12 countries in Southern Europe and Africa.
