Siemens Gamesa announced its latest order from OX2 for supplying wind turbines for the 145-MW Niinimaki project in the Pieksamaki municipality.

The project will use 22 SG 6.6-170 wind turbines. The Niinimaki wind power project will be commissioned in late 2024 and includes a 35-year service contract.

The Niinimaki project will be located in the Pieksamaki municipality in the Southern Savonia region of the country and will utilize 22 SG 6.6-170 turbines.

Last month, Siemens Gamesa and OX2 signed a 70-MW deal for the Riberget project in Sweden.

Installation is expected in late 2024. Siemens Gamesa will assume maintenance services for the project over a 35-year period.

Wind energy accounts for 10 percent of Finland’s electricity, and its objective is to increase to at least 27 percent by 2025, through both onshore and offshore wind, according to industry body WindEurope. Finland aims to be carbon neutral by 2035, much faster than most European nations.

The Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform has now sold over 4.5 GW of sales since its launch, with more than 2 GW coming in the Nordic region.
