Siemens is the leader in wind turbine market due to the increased growth in offshore activity according to New Market Research Report: 2014.
Annual wind capacity additions will reach a record high of 48 Gigawatts in 2014, by growing at a rate of 28 percent from 37.4 GW in 2013, says the report.
Siemens, Vestas, GE, Gamesa and Acciona are the major firms who have signed the largest volume of publically announced firm contracts for wind turbines in H1 2014.
Siemens has signed total wind turbine contract of 2,001 Megawatts, followed by Vestas with 1,281 MW, GE with 778 MW, Gamesa with 672 MW, and Acciona with 588 MW.
Out of Siemens’ total contract value, 1,002 MW consisted of offshore wind like 600 MW supply-only contracts for Project Gemini in the Netherlands and a 402 MW turnkey contract for Dudgeon East offshore wind farm in the UK.
Through all these high value contracts Siemens has become the largest company in terms of publically announced firm contracts for wind turbines in 2014.
In addition, Siemens and Alstom were the only turbine manufacturers to grab contracts for offshore wind turbines in H1 2014, with Siemen’s share having 97.1 percent and Alstom possessing a 2.9 percent.
Siemens’ performance in the offshore wind sector provides for its entire wind business, with highest order backlog of its competitors.
