RWE has strengthened its renewable energy footprint in France with the commissioning of four new wind farms and one solar plant during the summer of 2025. With a combined installed capacity of 83 megawatts (MW), the new projects highlight RWE’s accelerating role in the French energy transition.
RWE did not reveal investment details of the projects. The renewable projects are located across Hauts-de-France, Normandy, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine, regions with potential for wind and solar generation. Construction of these sites began in 2024 after RWE’s participation in the French Energy Regulatory Commission’s (CRE) 2023 onshore wind and solar tenders.
Breakdown of New Projects
Hauts-de-France Region
Catillon-Fumechon Wind Farm: 21.6 MW capacity, six turbines in Catillon-Fumechon.
Catésis-Bois Marronnier Wind Farm: 29.2 MW capacity, eight turbines in Troivilles and Reumont.
Nouvions Wind Farm Extension: Four additional turbines with 19.2 MW capacity.
Normandy Region
Ormesnil Wind Farm: 9.6 MW capacity with two turbines.
Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region
Les Pierrières Solar Plant: 7,420 photovoltaic modules with a total capacity of 4.2 MWp in Ardillières.
In total, the projects will provide enough renewable electricity to power around 40,000 French households annually, reducing dependency on fossil fuels and supporting France’s climate goals.
RWE Strengthening Renewable Leadership in France
Katja Wunschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, said the commissioning of five new wind and solar farms demonstrates the strength of RWE’s French teams and partnerships.
Katja Wunschel highlighted that the projects will power around 40,000 households with clean energy and reaffirmed RWE’s commitment to supporting France’s transition to a stable, affordable, and renewable energy supply, with more projects already in the pipeline.
Next Phase: More Wind Projects in the Pipeline
Building on these recent milestones, RWE is preparing its next wave of wind energy projects. The company secured 82 MW of onshore wind capacity in the 2024 French onshore wind tenders, further reinforcing its long-term commitment to renewable expansion.
With these additions, RWE now operates 265 MW of installed wind and solar capacity in France. This portfolio positions the company as one of the key drivers of the French clean energy transition, leveraging wind and solar resources to deliver sustainable, cost-efficient power.
