Plans for installing the highest ever wind turbines in England and Wales have been proposed in Hartlepool, Teesside, reports BBC News.

Consent from authorities for three single turbines of 200m height at Graythorp Industrial Estate, Brenda Road West Industrial Estate and Tofts Road West have been initiated.

However, Hartlepool Borough Council has registered 40 objections against the plans, says the report.

Anyhow, individuals, councils and other concerned organizations have responded with more than 300 consultation responses.

The developer of this scheme will be renewable energy company Seneca Global Energy located in Hartlepool.

Single as well as taller turbines can generate the volume of energy equivalent to three or four typical turbines used in combination for similar schemes, said, Ward Hadaway, solicitor, Mark Whitehead, acting on behalf of the company.

At height, the wind speed is high which enables maximum energy volume generation from each turbine with the benefit of reduced number of turbines. High-level energy production is possible with minimum visual impact on nearby area, he said.

On the other hand, a very few number of activists are objecting the plan on the basis of property value reduction, view obstacle and effect on wildlife.

Further discussions are going on about the location of turbines planned for Tofts Road West and Graythorp Industrial Estate.

The Ramblers Association and Network Rail are of the opinion that present planned site is not much away from railway line and buildings.

The application for three turbines with a maximum tip height of 206m is due to be finalized next year, reports the news agency.

On comparing, turbines at Northumberland wind farms such as Lynemouth and Middlemoor are about 120-125m high.
