Groundwork NE & Cumbria of Bishop Auckland has partnered with Lanchester Wines to install a wind turbine on the lands of North East Company, reports B daily.

Lanchester Wines are responsible for the installation project who also owns the turbines.

The turbine, located on Greencroft Industrial Estate of County Durham, is expected to produce approximately one million KWh of electricity annually, enough to power the equivalent of 250 homes.

The generated electricity will meet the demands of Groundwork’s Greenhouse office complex in addition to supplying power for operations at the nearby Lanchester Wines site. The surplus electricity produced will be supplied to National Grid.

This is the latest green energy addition of Lanchester Wines, which already operates three wind generators on the site. The costs will be recovered by the revenue generated by the Feed in Tariff.

In addition, the blades will operate in wind speeds as low as 3.5 metres per second and during very high winds, the blades will tilt away from the direction of the wind and stop turning.

The installation of this type of wind turbine is a coup for the area as it is only the third of its kind to be set up on an Industrial estate with only 100 similar turbines in the whole of the UK, commented, Kate Culverhouse, CEO, Groundwork NE & Cumbria.

The energy audit by Groundwork prompted to embrace a green agenda and the wind power complements the installation of a heat pump to modulate office temperatures, solar panels, the installation of electric vehicle charging points and a fleet of low-emission Volvo & Nissan Leaf vehicles, added, Tony Cleary, founder, Lanchester Wines.
