A consortium of technology and research companies has been participating in an experimental offshore floating wind farm project sponsored by the Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry of Japan since 2012.

The consortium consists of Marubeni, Tokyo University, Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan Marine United, Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding, Nippon Steels, Hitachi, Furukawa Electric, Shimizu and Mizuho Information and Research.

Construction work of a three column semi-sub is complete as part of the final stages of second phase.

Under the second phase of the construction, the consortium is setting up a 7MW oil pressure drive-type floating wind turbine along with undersea cables. Construction of a three-column semi-sub floater has been complete. Construction of floating turbine and parts procurement is being carried out by Yokohama Dockyard & Machinery Works and Mitsubishi group.

Production of undersea cables is in advance at Furukawa Electric Co Ltd. Preparation for cable connection to a 66KV floating sub-station is going on.

The project is expected to be functional by the end of this year. From early June to late August laying of chains and anchors around testing area will be met. From mid-June onwards shipping, laying as well as burying of cables undersea will commence which is expected to be finished by late August. Mounting of turbine on three-column semi-sub will begin from early December.
