Siemens to showcase products at WindEnergy Hamburg 2014

Siemens is showcasing its portfolio of software and hardware products for more cost-effective production and efficient operation at the WindEnergy Hamburg 2014 trade fair.

The extensive Siemens portfolio covers the entire lifecycle of a wind turbine, consisting of planning, engineering, production, and operation. It also includes automation, visualization, and control technologies to communications, control circuitry and power distribution.

All Siemens products and systems work together impeccably increasing system transparency and availability due to the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) and Totally Integrated Power (TIP) platform concepts.

Every plant section is readily monitored and optimally controlled. All components are standardized and communicate flawlessly across all levels, from the individual terminal to the higher-level control room.

Besides, Siemens offers tested and certified standardized components and software tools.

Simatic Wind Library is an example of a comprehensive wind turbine management. It consists of a complete basic operating system for wind energy system automation based on a software library with over 50 functional modules.

About 80 percent of a wind turbine’s functions are stored in this Library in a standard language code. With all communications-capable components integrated, it reduces programming and commissioning costs.

The system controller is another example of cost optimization that can be adapted to on-site conditions. The more exactly the controller can address wind and operating conditions, the more the wind turbine design can be optimized. All simulation results and control settings can be transferred over to the Simatic system controller.

A modified simpler version of this process is Soft-SPS Simatic WinAC RTX that communicates directly, in real time with the MATLAB/Simulink. Using this software, wind turbine manufacturers can improve their individual programs gaining maximum efficiency.

For efficient distribution of low-voltage electricity in the wind turbine, Siemens has introduced monitoring devices.

One device is the open 3WL circuit breaker, which ensures reliable protection in the main power circuit. It protects generators and converters against short circuits and overloads.

The modified 3VA molded case circuit breaker is used for feeding in the secondary circuits of a wind turbine. It reliably protects electrical loads of secondary circuits against electrically caused outages by turning off the power during short circuits and overloads.

Sivacon 8PS busbar trunking systems ensure reliable, low-loss power transmission and distribution in the system.

The 8DJH 36 gas-insulated switchgears (GIS) ensure there is reliable connection to typical grid configurations. Cables transmit the generated electricity to a transformer station, in which another GIS creates the connection to the high-voltage grid.

Siestorage battery storage system is a part of the energy storage solution. The portfolio also comprises safety technology and fire protection.

Energy automation solutions are based on the Sicam product family. Energy automation covers a spectrum of solutions from monitoring wind turbines to equipping offshore transformer platforms that meets operators’ needs.
