Mazagon Dock Sustainability Report FY2025-26: Renewable Energy Reaches 27.47 mn MJ, ₹471.81 Crore Green Capex, 6.76 mn Green Credits Generated

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) strengthened its sustainability performance during FY 2025-26 by expanding renewable energy use, investing in sustainable infrastructure, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing carbon management. The company integrated environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives into its manufacturing operations, supporting India’s transition toward a low-carbon industrial economy through clean energy, resource efficiency, and responsible business practices.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Sustainability Report 2025-26 indicated total energy consumption of 6,32,12,218.44 megajoules against 5,75,03,325.10 MJ in 2024-25. Renewable energy consumption increased to 2,74,69,619.93 MJ from 1,63,99,104.23 MJ in 2024-25, reflecting progress in clean energy adoption. A major milestone during the year was the development of a 1,375-kW rooftop solar power plant under a Power Purchase Agreement with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam, to achieve a 50 percent renewable energy target.

The company also expanded the use of green tariff electricity and deployed inverter-based welding machines, inverter rectifiers, Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems, Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) pedestal and ceiling fans, 5-star-rated air conditioners, and LED lighting to improve operational energy efficiency.

The company strengthened its climate action strategy through improved emissions monitoring and carbon management. Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions were 270.56 metric tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, while Scope 2 emissions totaled 6,367.01 metric tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. Scope 3 emissions, mainly from business travel and indirect value chain activities, stood at 463.71 metric tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. MDL also generated 6,755,608 Green Credits, supporting India’s emerging carbon market and national climate objectives.

Sustainability-focused capital investment remained a major priority during FY 2025-26. MDL invested ₹471.81 crore in capital expenditure to modernize infrastructure and improve sustainable manufacturing capabilities. Key projects included the continued development of the Nhava Yard Greenfield Shipyard, the construction of a 12,000-tonne Floating Dry Dock, facility upgrades at Alcock Yard and South Yard Annex, and the phased crane replacement programme, which reached 65 percent completion, improving operational efficiency and resource utilization.

The company also enhanced resource management across its operations. Total water withdrawal declined to 3,32,489 kilolitres, while total waste generation reduced to 11,474.48 metric tonnes, reflecting continued improvements in water conservation, waste management, and operational efficiency.

On the social front, MDL maintained 100 percent statutory social security coverage under Provident Fund and Employees’ State Insurance schemes for all eligible personnel. The company employed 981 permanent employees and 4,789 workers, while continuing to prioritize employee welfare, workplace safety, and skill development. MDL also invested ₹46.81 crore in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives supporting healthcare, education, and community development.

The company’s ESG strategy is led by Chairman and Managing Director Capt. Jagmohan (Retd.), along with Ruchir Agrawal, Director (Finance), and Biju George, Director (Shipbuilding), who continue to drive sustainability through renewable energy expansion, climate action, responsible governance, and sustainable infrastructure development.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders’ FY 2025-26 sustainability performance highlights measurable progress across renewable energy, emissions reduction, infrastructure modernization, and social responsibility. With 2,74,69,619.93 megajoules of renewable energy consumption, a 1,375-kW rooftop solar project, ₹471.81 crore in sustainable capital investment, 6,755,608 Green Credits, and 100 percent statutory social security coverage, MDL is strengthening its ESG foundation while supporting India’s long-term net-zero and sustainable industrial growth ambitions.
