Maruti Suzuki, the largest Indian carmaker, has launched a mild hybrid version of its sedan Ciaz.
The new car marks the company’s venture into eco-friendly technology segment. The Ciaz is priced between Rs 8.23 lakh and Rs 10.17 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The diesel version of the car will be powered by a 1.3 litre engine. The vehicle features a starter generator and high capacity battery capable of storing energy generated from regenerative braking.
The power generated during deceleration or braking is used to power an electric motor for accelerating, in turn, improving fuel efficiency. The company has stated that the car would offer fuel efficiency of 28.09 kmpl.
Currently, Toyota Prius and Camry Hybrid which cost between Rs 31.92 lakh and Rs 39.8 lakh (ex—showroom Delhi) are full range hybrids available in the Indian market, The Hindu reports.
