Tata Power Solar and British Gas partner to solarise Toyota UK

Tata Power Solar (TPS) and British Gas, has announced the commissioning of a 3,475,000 kWh commercial solar PV installation for Toyota Motors in UK.

The installation was inaugurated at Toyota Manufacturing UK’s engine production center in North Wales and will provide electricity into company’s distribution network used to power manufacturing operations at the site, home to European production of Toyota petrol and hybrid petrol engines.

The solar plant aims to reduce the carbon emissions with a potential to generate electricity to produce up to 22,500 engines annually.

Most of the 13,000 multi-crystalline panels, supplied by Tata Power Solar, were manufactured in their India plant at Bangalore.

Besides, it has the potential to produce 3,475,000 kWh of electricity, reducing plant’s carbon emissions by over 1,800 tons a year, equivalent to the combined weight of more than 1,260 Toyota Auris hatchbacks.

The partnership with British Gas is the beginning of a great working relationship and huge potential in the UK & Europe market for solar is anticipated, said, Ajay Goel, CEO, Tata Power Solar.
