SunPower has announced teaming up with Sunverge, producer of Solar Integration System (SIS) energy storage solutions offering a combined package of their solar and storage provisions in US and Australia.

The announcement follows a partnership between SolarCity and Tesla as well as the announcement of several energy storage companies beginning to hit the market.

It is forecasted that in next five years, there will be a drastic change in the energy market, with solar power, energy storage, smart devices, energy management technologies and electric vehicles being combined, according to SunPower officials.

A new report estimates that the annual US solar + storage market will rise from $42 million in 2014 to over $1 billion in 2018 and US will install 328 MW of behind-the-meter energy storage during that period.

By that time, nearly 10 percent of commercial solar customers will start using energy storage systems.

Customers are provided with a smart energy solution by combining adaptable storage solutions with high advance solar technology that provide exclusive levels of personalization, value and control.

Making use of this integrated solution, utilities can access both rooftop solar and storage facility profits.

The hardware and software platform provided by Sunverge helps customers to integrate solar, energy storage as well as distributed resources as a single unit, managing them to increase the efficiency of investments.

The Future of Solar-Plus-Storage in the US has identified certain driving factors like the falling costs of solar power and batteries, changes to net metering policies, California’s energy storage mandates, Tesla’s coming Giga factory and the need for greater grid resiliency.
