RWE is advancing its commitment to solar power in Poland with plans to construct solar farms exceeding 100 megawatts (MWac) in total capacity.

The Polish Energy Regulatory Office (URE) recently awarded RWE 31 solar projects through the latest renewable energy auction. These projects collectively represent 102 megawatts of direct current (MWdc), equivalent to 84 MW of alternating current (MWac).

Most of these projects have secured necessary permits, with construction set to commence in early 2025.

“31 solar projects awarded. This is a great success and underlines our intention to further expand the use of solar energy in Poland, where we already have 91 MWac of solar capacity in operation and more than 100 MWac under construction today,” Katja Wunschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, said.

RWE operates wind farms with a combined capacity of 541 MW and solar parks totaling 91 MWac. In addition to its solar and onshore wind endeavors, RWE is pioneering its first offshore wind project in Poland, the F.E.W. Baltic II wind farm.
