New FedEx facility opened at New York Solar Park

FedEx Trade Networks announced the opening of its new environmentally-advanced 88,000 sq. ft. facility at Riverview Solar Technology Park.

The innovative office and distribution facility reorganizes the company’s operations that include many unique features that promote environmental sustainability.

With this opening, FedEx has consolidated its workforce drawn from various locations for enhanced efficiency, collaboration with minimum carbon footprint.

The new facility includes solar energy panels, low-flow water consumption and bio-beds to provide underground water retention for storm water management and soil erosion control, reducing impact on the native vegetation.

FedEx Trade Networks has deep roots in the Buffalo-Niagara region, and business can be operated more responsibly prioritizing the environment and local community. It will be a model for environmental corporate responsibility through dedicated renewable energy investment and green building best practices, said, Jack Muhs, president, CEO, FedEx Trade Networks.

It is the first of this kind in New York with Advanced Solar Architecture (ASA) that generates electricity through solar technology with features such as shading, wind and rain protection.

The thermal mass building construction follow LEED standards that reduce energy costs by 30-40 percent, with energy efficient lighting all over. The building uses a 100kW solar array also.

FedEx Trade Networks is so committed towards sustainability and hence such steps are taken to conduct business in an environmentally responsible manner. The central impacts of sustainable energy echoes with the whole FedEx team creating enthusiasm that helps to express the virtues of generating clean energy, said, Thomas M. Montante, chief executive officer, principal, TM Montante Development.

Besides, they have used low-flow technology and fixtures in the building to achieve water consumption reduction by 50 percent. The solar campus is known as a New York State Shovel-Ready Certified Site, with a low-impact green business park.

In addition, the facility is the latest addition to the FedEx EarthSmart Innovation’s Solar Facility portfolio. EarthSmart, the environmental sustainability platform of all FedEx companies, emphasizes on finding methods to minimize the impact on the environment through sustainable practices.
