E.ON Solar, a subsidiary of German utility E.ON, has started construction of the 20-MW Maricopa West solar project in Kern County, California.

The company will be working with Signal Energy Constructors to build the project.

Maricopa West is located in Southern California and E.ON Solar had purchased the site from Maricopa Orchards. The solar park will utilize a single-axis tracking system and will comprise 89,000 photovoltaic panels. It is expected to be fully operational later this year.

“This is an exciting time at E.ON Solar, as we continue to build projects that do not use water in the production of solar electricity, while helping to address America’s energy resource and security needs,” Steve Trenholm, the CEO of E.ON Solar said.
