Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which has installed solar power capacity of 2,794 kWp across its network, was honored recently. Delhi Metro was the topper among public entities in developing solar capacity.

DMRC is on a ‘solar mission’ and is developing solar plants at metro stations of the upcoming Faridabad corridor as part of the efforts.

DMRC has also signed power purchase agreements that will take solar power utilization up by another 7 megawatts across the network.

“Metro is planning to implement 50 MWp rooftop solar plants in existing facilities and upcoming stations as part of the Phase III network,” an official statement said.

The power generated by these plants will be used to meet operational requirements such as lighting at the stations.

Union Minister of State for Power Piyush Goyal handed the award DMRC officials during a ceremony that marked the first foundation day of Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of States (AREAS).
