Bayer CropScience has installed a 60-panel solar system at its newly opened Bayer Bee Care Center in RTP, to harness energy cost.

Each year, the system will be capable to produce 22.8 MWh of power.

Company has decided to add the solar array as it fits perfectly with its commitment to sustainability, says, Peter Erri, site manager, Bayer CropScience, RTP.

In Kansas, already a subsidiary of Bayer CropScience production is operating solar panels, which has inspired the RTP project.

NC Solar Now, located in Raleigh is responsible for the panel installation.

The bee center of $2.4 million budget started commercial production in April. It operates two more branches in Clayton and in Monheim, Germany, the company headquarters.

The company has invested $12 million in bee health in 2014, hopes to research ways to help honey bees meet an increasing global demand for crop pollination.

The center in RTP is studying ways to manage parasitic bee mites threatening hive populations.
