Zelestra and Sungrow announced an agreement marking a significant milestone in the Latin American renewable energy sector, particularly in the area of battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The deal involves the supply of Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled BESS and its MV Power Conversion Units for a 1 GWh storage capacity project within the Aurora hybrid project in Tarapaca, Chile. This project also includes a 220 MWdc solar plant equipped with Sungrow’s 1+X Modular Inverter.

The Aurora project, which is poised to be one of the largest BESS projects in Latin America, represents a strategic initiative to provide nighttime power to Abastible, a leading Chilean energy company. The initiative aligns with Chile’s energy transition goals by enabling a consistent supply of renewable energy during non-solar hours through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).

Zelestra’s role in the project is noteworthy, as the company leverages its expertise in multi-technology renewable energy solutions. With a project portfolio of over 7 GW across Latin America, Zelestra is solidifying its position as a leading player in the region’s clean energy landscape. The Aurora project alone is expected to generate approximately 600 GWh of renewable electricity annually, equivalent to the energy consumption of 200,000 Chilean households.

Sungrow, on the other hand, continues to expand its influence in Latin America through this agreement. With 740 GW of power electronic converters installed globally and a reputation as a leading supplier of PV inverters and energy storage systems, Sungrow’s technology will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Aurora project’s efficiency and reliability.
